Job Posting: Is finding an employee online realistic?
Finding employees can be surprisingly hard, even today while unemployment is fairly high. If you need unskilled employees they are fairly easy to find. However the highly skilled and experienced ones are much more difficult. These days a lot of people look for job postings on the internet by searching Craigslist. But just how realistic is it to find an employee online? Obviously that is going to depend on a number of factors, the biggest being just what kind of job you are hiring for. If you know how to do it you can fill most jobs online.
How realistic it is to find an employee online is going to depend largely on the type of job that you are hiring for. In general the more experience or skill that a job requires the less likely it is that you will find an employee online. Most high level executives are going to be found by recruitment firms or through personal contacts. However if you running a fast food restaurant you will probably do very well if you post an add online. This is mainly because the type of people who are looking for these types of jobs are far more likely to find them on the internet.
The biggest problem that you are going to face when you post a job online is that you are going to get a lot of responses, many of them from people who are totally unqualified. Unfortunately because it is so easy to apply for a job that has been posted online a lot of people will just apply for every job they see. If you aren't prepared for this you are going to be overwhelmed by the number of applications you receive. Especially if the job that you are advertising is a high paying one. The best way to deal with this problem is to make sure that you post a very detailed ad that clearly describes what you are looking for. You will still get lots of resumes from unqualified people but the number will be reduced.
The other big thing that you are going to want to look at is where you post your job ad. If you are hiring for an entry level unskilled position then sites like Craigslist are a good option. However if you need a highly experienced executive there probably aren't a lot of them looking for work on Craigslist. In this case you are going to want to go to the job boards that are aimed specifically at professionals. There are also a number of job boards you can post on that are aimed at people in specific career fields. This is the best place to post if you need somebody with specific skills. Not only will posting in the right place help to make sure that you get the right applicant it will also help reduce the number of applications that you get from people who are totally unqualified.
